In 1983, Human Performance International (HPI) - under the leadership of Dr. Jacques Dallaire and the late Dr. Dan Marisi - introduced a Performance Enhancement process that was designed to effectively address the needs of a diverse population of high-performance competitors participating in a variety of sports and occupational pursuits.

Since the program's inception for example, Dr. Dallaire has guided the physical and mental training of more than 500 racers from 27 countries and many classes of racing including Formula One, Nextel Cup, Busch, Champ Cars, IRL, NHRA, Rallye, Sports Cars, Motocross, Superbike, etc. Our database of high-performance racer information is the largest and most comprehensive in the world. In addition, Dr. Dallaire has worked with a broad selection of individual and team sports, corporate executives, law enforcement specialists, surgeons, pilots, firefighters, sales professionals, and many other clients from a variety of walks of life. The mental skills in particular that underlie championship performance are common to all of these endeavors, and this accounts for the diversity of Dr. Dallaire's clientele.
This comprehensive program represents the most intensive and individualized program we offer. It targets the assessment and subsequent development of a broad set of mental skills that support our ability to perform in challenging situations: the ability to control our focus of attention, coordination, timing skills, memory, mental processing speed and accuracy, etc.
This program typically includes:
- The day-and-a-half individualized assessment that takes place at our facility in Cornelius, NC. Dr. Dallaire begins this one-on-one process by first considering the extent to which the client's performance environment requires certain psycho-physiological attributes that are consistent with success. He then establishes and completes a psychometric and laboratory-based evaluation protocol that comprehensively profiles the individual's strengths and weaknesses to meet these demands. The evaluation component of the program targets the mental and dynamic vision skills side of the performance equation. Raw abilities such as motor coordination, anticipation timing skills, the ability to mentally process information quickly and accurately, and memory skills, as well as selected elements of physical fitness are profiled in an objective way.
- The development of appropriate enhancement strategies/training programs based on the individual client evaluation. Using this profile as a starting point, an individualized program is developed and support provided to assist the client to enhance their mental and physical readiness to compete and improve their performance ability.
- Follow-up coaching support focused on the implementation of the client's personal performance model at a major event in their sport or work environment. The most unique feature of our Individual Performance Program however is the development of a personal performance model referred to as the A.C.T.© Model. This mental programming process relies heavily on the use of imagery skills and techniques, and when developed through quality practice will help the client to achieve their best personal performances in any competitive situation. Many times, inconsistent performances by a skilled individual are due to the inconsistent application of the underlying mental skills that necessarily instill a sense of mental toughness, confidence, and focus. Many of the clients who have worked with Dr. Dallaire indicate that not only did this process enhance their ability to perform in challenging situations, but it was life-changing for them as well.
- Ongoing support via email, telephone, etc. over the balance of a year to help the client further refine and solidify their personal A.C.T.© Model.
