CORNELIUS, NC - The following posting was made on the NHRA website regarding the tragic passing of Performance Program alumnus Eric Medlen. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric's family, friends, and fans in this difficult time.

Friends, peers come together in Indy to pay respects at Medlen memorial

by Rob Geiger, NHRA.com
3/27/2007

Eric Medlen More than 2,500 members of the drag racing community crowded into Connection Pointe Christian Church Tuesday night in Brownsburg, Ind., to pay their last respects to Funny Car driver Eric Medlen, who lost his life due to injuries suffered in a testing accident March 19 in Gainesville, Fla.

Medlen's father, John, stepmother, Martha, and mother, Mimi, greeted each mourner at the altar of the church, where Medlen lay in his casket wearing his Castrol Syntec firesuit and fourth-place-finisher hat from the 2006 season.

Drivers, crewmembers, friends, and fans made their way through the line, which at times extended into the parking lot of the church. NHRA President Tom Compton led a contingent of executives from the sanctioning body.

The church overflowed with flowers, including arrangements from several drag race teams and sponsors and numerous NASCAR, IRL, CART, and World of Outlaw teams.

A video presentation of Medlen's accomplishments during his time at John Force Racing and his life on the rodeo circuit played throughout the evening. The flower arrangements were dotted with racing and rodeo mementos.

One of the more poignant moments of the night occurred when team owner Force and his wife, Laurie, and daughters, Ashley, Brittany, and Courtney, made their way through the line and greeted the Medlens at the altar. John Medlen remained strong and resolute throughout the proceedings, offering comfort to each of the mourners, including boss and friend Force.

The funeral will take place Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the same church. NHRA Chaplain Larry Smiley of Racers For Christ will preside over the service.

Performance Program alumnus Ryan Justice sustained minor injuries at the recent Indy Pro Series event held at Homestead, Florida.HOMESTEAD, FL - It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. This old ditty sums up the ups and downs of the Homestead-Miami weekend. With 33 Performance Program alumni taking the green flag in the three major race series (Indy Racing League; IPS; Rolex Grand Am) running on the Homestead-Miami speedway, some were bound to have lady luck smile on them while others saw her frown. While a total of six Performance Program alumni made it onto the top three steps of the podium in the three race categories at least one racer, Ryan Justice, ended up taking an unexpected helicopter ride to Jackson Memorial Hospital trauma center following a high-speed crash brought about by debris on the race track. Fortunately, Ryan was released that same night and while he will not be taking the grid in St. Petersburg this coming weekend, he is already preparing for a return to the #38 Sam Schmidt Racing cockpit at the next event in Indianapolis. Fellow competitor Pablo Perez was not as lucky as he is recovering from serious lower-leg injuries following another crash during the weekend IPS event. Our thoughts are with Pablo as he begins the long road of recovery.

Ron Fellows at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of SebringSEBRING, FL - Dr. Jacques Dallaire made his way to Sebring, FL for the 55th Annual running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The race week featured 25 Performance Program alumni and 3 team clients taking part in the various events throughout the week. For the most part, the weather cooperated with a mix of sunny and dry conditions on most days but there were the typical central Florida moments of torrential rain and high winds. In spite of the difficult weather conditions, ultimately, ten program alumni found their way to the top three steps of the podium following the ALMS and GT3 Cup race events. The stage is now set for a competitive 2007 race season!

Porsche Club of America members participating in a Performance Prime group seminar.SOUTHBURY, CT - Dr. Jacques Dallaire was invited to address a group of nearly 130 Connecticut Valley Region - PCA Club members during their Winter Driver's Ed workshop held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Southbury. Dr. Dallaire shared some basic information with the group regarding the development of mental skills and high-performance driving and on the heels of the seminar, CVR principals are investigating the possibility of developing a more extensive program to allow interested members to dig deeper into the mental skills enhancement process. Stay tuned for more information on what may become a structured program available to high-performance car clubs!

John Walko RacingTRAFFORD, PA - Dr. Jacques Dallaire returned to the John Walko Racing facility in Trafford, PA to spend another day with the group that won the Team Championship in the 2006 Pro Star Mazda Series. Team members had participated in the Performance Program developed by Dr. Dallaire in early 2006 and team principal John Walko, recognizing that the information they had learned had contributed in a positive way to their championship-winning performance, decided to repeat the seminar and dig deeper into the mental skills enhancement process. Everyone came away with an improved personal 'toolkit' and a renewed focus on delivering the best performance they were capable of in 2007!

Kinetic Motorsports recently participated in a Performance Prime seminar.BUFORD, GA - Kinetic Motorsports co-owner and Performance Program alumnus Russell Smith had been looking to bring some of the information and 'tools' he acquired during his two-day Performance Program experience to his teammates, in order to help them to maximize their own performance. As a result, Dr. Jacques Dallaire made his way to the team's home base in Buford (GA) for a day-long seminar with a group of Kinetic associates from the various divisions of the company, including co-owner and established professional driver Nic Jonsson. The participants welcomed the opportunity to learn about how mental skills affect their performance and how they could optimize their performance by learning to control their mental skills.

Performance Program alumnus Jamie McMurrayDAYTONA BEACH, FL - The 2007 Daytona 500 race week provided an excellent venue for Dr. Jacques Dallaire to follow up with recent Performance Program racers Jamie McMurray, Travis Kvapil, and Erik Darnell, a trio of Roush Fenway Racing hotshoes. As is the case in racing generally, the week offered up both opportunities and challenges with a podium finish for program alumni Jack Sprague and Travis Kvapil, and a crash caused by another competitor with 5 laps remaining in the race - following a strong run - for Jamie McMurray. A combined total of 26 Performance Program alumni took the start in Daytona in the three main events: The Nextel Cup Daytona 500, the Busch Series race and the Craftsman Truck Series race.

Dr. Jacques Dallaire inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame

Performance Prime - Helping you achieve greater heights of performance and excellence.TORONTO, ON - Dr. Jacques Dallaire has been officially inducted in the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame, at the 14th annual black tie Gala award ceremony in Toronto. Dr. Dallaire was honoured together with his longtime partner, Dr. Dan Marisi. Eight other recipients were also named as 2006 Inductees (see here).

"What a wonderful honor!" remarked Dr. Dallaire. "Dan and I embarked on this journey because we have a passion for what we do. It's so gratifying that several Canadian drivers felt our contribution to the sport was worthy of being recognized and that the review panel for the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame concurred with their recommendation.

"Our work has been very much behind the scenes. But I've been fortunate in being able to glimpse into the mind of many high-performance individuals over the years and can honestly say that racers are an incredible breed of animal.focused, dedicated, and smart. I've learned so much from the people I've worked with over the past 25 years and have enjoyed the opportunity to work with almost 100 Canadian racers to this point. I very much look forward to working with many more as young up-and-coming Canadians make their mark on the international motorsport scene."

Performance Program alumnus David Empringham victorious at DaytonaDAYTONA BEACH, FL - Dr. Jacques Dallaire attended the Rolex 24 at Daytona race where 53 Performance Program alumni shared the grid for the Rolex and Koni Challenge races. The event was well-attended and the competition furious as the twice-around-the-clock sprint resulted in difference of approximately 1:16 between the first and second-placed cars. The race proved to be quite successful as Performance Program racers occupied the top three positions on the podium in every race category (Rolex; Koni Challenge) except for the GT class, where alumni scored first and second-placed positions. A strong start to the 2007 race season!
